On May 31, 2008, I will begin a hiking and biking expedition in Colorado to raise funds for World Bicycle Relief's Project Zambia . World Bicycle Relief, a 501(c)(3) organization, provides bicycles to disease prevention specialists and volunteers who treat HIV/AIDS victims in Zambia . These bikes are provided on a two-year work-to-own basis. World Bicycle Relief believes "simple, sustainable transportation is an essential element in disaster assistance and poverty relief. Bicycles fulfill basic needs by providing access to healthcare, education and economic development. In order to support World Bicycle Relief's worthy cause, I aim to summit all 54 of Colorado 's 14,000-foot peaks without any vehicle support. I will ride my Xtracycle-equipped mountain bike to the trailhead of each peak. This completely human-powered journey will entail biking over 1,400 miles and hiking over 350 miles. I hope to accomplish this feat in 52 days. Each bike provided by World Bicycle Relief costs $109. I aim to raise enough money to buy two bikes for each 14,000-foot peak in Colorado , a total of $11,772.-
