World Bicycle Relief - Andrew Heinrichs Fundraiser

On May 31, 2008, I will begin a hiking and biking expedition in Colorado to raise funds for World Bicycle Relief's Project Zambia . World Bicycle Relief, a 501(c)(3) organization, provides bicycles to disease prevention specialists and volunteers who treat HIV/AIDS victims in Zambia . These bikes are provided on a two-year work-to-own basis. World Bicycle Relief believes "simple, sustainable transportation is an essential element in disaster assistance and poverty relief. Bicycles fulfill basic needs by providing access to healthcare, education and economic development. In order to support World Bicycle Relief's worthy cause, I aim to summit all 54 of Colorado 's 14,000-foot peaks without any vehicle support. I will ride my Xtracycle-equipped mountain bike to the trailhead of each peak. This completely human-powered journey will entail biking over 1,400 miles and hiking over 350 miles. I hope to accomplish this feat in 52 days. Each bike provided by World Bicycle Relief costs $109. I aim to raise enough money to buy two bikes for each 14,000-foot peak in Colorado , a total of $11,772.

Group Ride - Hall Ranch - Wed May 21

Our next group MTB ride will be 7am Wednesday May 21st at Hall Ranch near Lyons. Meet at the lower lot just off of Hwy 7, southwest of Lyons.

If all goes well, we will ride the upper loop (Nelson Loop) twice for a total of aprx 12.0 miles. With a group, allow aprx 2 hours.

Hall ranch is 37 miles from Golden Bike Shop, and takes about 45 min - 1 1/4 hour driving time depending on traffic.

This is a very scenic ride this time of year with snow-capped Longs Peak in the background These pics were taken this AM from the Nelson Loop:

We will try getting riding at 7am, so try to be a few minutes early. Hope to see you there. Let us know if you plan on going so we'll know who to watch for.
After the ride, we will stop at Barking Dog Cafe in Lyons for java and breakfast burritos!

Niner Bikes - Centenial Cone Ride

A few weeks ago, the guys from Niner Bikes brought a new Jet 9 and an Air 9 to Golden Bike Shop for a test ride. We headed up to Centenial Cone and had a group of 9, all on 29ers.
On the hitch: Sir 9, Jet 9, Rip 9, Air 9. Yeah - that should covers things...

Steve from Niner riding the competition...

Gavin on his Rip 9

I rode the Air 9 and Jet 9, so didn't get them in the action pics. The Kermit Green paint is decidedly fast...

Adam (GBS Manager) coming back down the rock stairs...

Our retail Jet 9s arrived this week. We should have a few in demo soon as well. Learn more about the newest Niner here http://ninerbikes.com/jet9.html
