THE GREAT BONK RIDE/RACE OCT 25TH 8AM START --- GBS start/finish

'THE GREAT BONK" RIDE/RACE ROUTE DESCRIPTION:

GBS to White Ranch lower parking lot, then take Belcher Hill Trail (mostly dbl track) to Sawmill (dbl track) to upper parking lot then descend west to Crawford Gulch Road/Drew Hill Road intersection. Take a right on Drew Hill Road, climb to top, and then descend steep road to Golden Gate State Park. At Nott Creek Parking area on north side of road, take right on dirt road and ride about 400-500 feet and look for Mountain Lion trail on left (kinda buried in grass, so look hard…..). Take Mountain Lion to the left (don’t go right!) and follow that to the Burro trail and take left and descend back to Drew Hill Road. Turn and continue west on Drew Hill road (Drew Hill road is also Ralston Creek road at this point) and past Golden Gate Visitor Center on left and take right on Golden Gate Canyon Road (aka hwy 46) and continue northwest for about a mile. At Kriley Pond turn right into park lot and cross dirt bridge between the two ponds and look for the Blue Grouse trail on the right. This one can be easy to miss… you have to climb a steep section for about 30 feet and the trail goes right. Take Blue Grouse to Mule Deer trail and go left at fork. Descend Mule Deer trail to Mtn. Base Road and cross over road and continue on Mule Deer. Shortly after crossing the road Mule Deer intersects the Elk trail. Go left on Elk and continue north for about 2-3 miles until you reach Gap road. Cross Gap road and continue on Elk (pass Raccoon trail on left, you could ride this, but it will add 15-20 minutes to your ride) until you reach the Panorama Point. Work your way back over to Gap road and ride east for 100 feet or so then take Mule Deer trail on right. Continue on Mule Deer until the first intersection and go left and over the barbed wire fence and climb to Gap road. Descend Gap road for a mile (very fast dirt road, so be careful!) to the Rifleman Phillips Group Campground on right. Go into campground and look for gate on left. This is the Buffalo trail. Descend Buffalo to Mountain Lion trail. Take left on Mountain Lion trail and continue all the way around Windy Peak and Deer Creek campground back to the Nott Creek parking lot (~3-4 miles of super demanding trail). Please note that Mountain Lion trail is VERY technical mountain biking so know your skill limit before attempting to ride a section. Head south out of Nott Creek parking lot to Drew Hill road and climb back up and over to White Ranch and descend the same way you started the ride and head back to GBS for a nice cold beer, good burger, and great company!

This ride takes 4-7 hours depending on your fitness level and it’s approximately ~44-45 miles from and to GBS.
